The Primaries are Over

Well it's official the primaries are now over and it's on to the general election.  I managed to squeek in with 4 votes.  Many thanks to those who voted for me and for voting in general.  Our community is better when everyone is involved.  I will have more posts coming as I work towards the general election.  I have some information from the city council and from some meetings I will post when I get some free time to get them uploaded.

The votes are in!

The votes are in!  I might have made it into the general election by the skin of my teeth!  There are a few more stragglers based on an email I received last night from the Farmington city office but these numbers are pretty good.  Thanks to all who voted, and especially who sent me a vote.

A brief post of who I am and what I feel is facing Farmington

My name is Justin LeCheminant, I'm 34 years old and I have lived in Farmington for the past 6 and a half years. My wife and I first moved here in 2005 after I graduated from Weber State University. I was working in Layton at the time and my wife worked in Murray. I now work in downtown salt lake in the Gateway and my wife runs her own business. We have three dogs a Chow Chow, Yellow Lab, and Siberian Husky.  Farmington is the best place we have ever lived and we want to keep it that way. Farmington was recently voted the 12th best place to live in CNN's best place to live poll. We need to strive hard to not only keep that ranking but move up!

Growth and way of live are the biggest issues facing Farmington. Farmington started small but has seen very rapid growth over the past several years. We need to be able to balance this growth with the needed revenues for city services. Station park was a great example of this, it was done in a responsible manner that has promoted business but allowed Farmington to keep it's small town charm. We need to continue this kind of  responsible growth management. As Farmington grows we will face an ever increasing need for public services that it is our responsibility to provide to our citizens. I would like to see more festivals of all kinds that showcase what a great place Farmington is to live and can provide much needed income.

Growth also includes transportation. We are currently facing a large freeway issue on the west side of Farmington with the West Davis Corridor. This could have a very large impact on the entire west side of Farmington. The city council needs to interact with the citizens, the state legislature, and UDOT to ensure the best possible solution is found. Again we want to promote growth and ease of transportation but we don't want to lose hat makes our town such a great place to live. As long as we are involved in the planning and development of all options we can provide the best solution for everyone.

It's finally over

Well the voting took place last night and the results are in. Unfortunately I was not among the top 4 candidates. So it looks like my campaign will be ending here. A great big thanks goes out to everyone who voted for me and those who helped with the campaign. It was a lot of fun and a tremendous learning experience. I met a lot of great folks who want to make Farmington an excellent place to live and hopefully I will be able get more involved in the local activities in our community. I will keep this blog open even though I'm not running for City Council at this time.

Big congratulations go out to the final four candidates who are:

John Bilton
Kevin Poff
Jim Talbot
Anita Todd

Remember the general election is November 3rd so get out again and vote.
